#7407 Home Assessments for Healthy Living – Embracing Abilities and Disabilities
People are living longer without or with some level of disability. Research indicates that it is more cost-effective and conducive in terms of health benefits to age in place at home than to be in a nursing home. If aging in home is the best outcome as a person ages, then the home should be accessible for healthy aging in place whether there is a disability or not. Therapy practitioners are equipped as movement analysts to conduct assessments and make universal design recommendations that will prevent falls, promote fall recovery and establish the home as a therapeutic environment, particularly after rehabilitation to encourage exercise and physical activity for healthy living. This course provides the basic and necessary information to conduct a home assessment and make recommendations for aging gracefully and safely in the home. Course instruction method includes: lecture, videos, group discussion, lab practice, case studies, and question/answers.
